Trueform’s Passenger Displays division continues to set the benchmark for intelligent, passenger-focused information systems across global transport networks. Building on the heritage of the Ferrograph® brand, acquired in 2007, Trueform delivers fully integrated indoor and outdoor display solutions, supported by UK-based manufacturing, nationwide installation, and long-term maintenance services.

A flagship example of this capability is the deployment of interactive digital totems for the Caledonian Sleeper network, operating under the wider infrastructure of Network Rail.

The Challenge

Long-distance rail passengers require more than basic departure boards. The Caledonian Sleeper service connects major UK cities overnight, meaning travellers often need reassurance, support, and real-time communication, particularly during late hours.

The operator sought a future-ready solution that would:

  • Deliver accurate real-time journey information

  • Improve passenger confidence and safety

  • Provide accessible, human customer support

  • Create a connected digital environment within stations

  • Support advertising and revenue opportunities

The system needed to function reliably in demanding public environments while offering a premium passenger experience aligned with the brand.

The Solution

Trueform designed and manufactured bespoke interactive digital totems tailored specifically for the Caledonian Sleeper network.

Each unit features:

  • Fully interactive 46-inch touchscreen interface

  • Real-time journey planning and service information

  • Integrated WiFi connectivity

  • CCTV for passenger safety and monitoring

  • News, announcements, and advertising capability

  • Audio and video communication systems

  • Live customer support via video chat with staff at Inverness HQ

These smart totems function as digital passenger hubs, combining wayfinding, customer service, and communication into a single, intuitive platform.

Manufactured entirely in the UK, the units reflect Trueform’s commitment to engineering quality, durability, and long-term reliability in public transport environments.

The Impact

The deployment has enhanced the passenger experience by turning waiting spaces into connected supportive environments.

Key outcomes include:

  • Increased passenger confidence through direct staff access

  • Improved accessibility and customer assistance

  • Clear, trusted real-time travel information

  • Enhanced station safety and monitoring

  • Additional commercial communication opportunities

  • A modern, premium brand presence

By integrating technology with passenger-centred design, Trueform transformed traditional station infrastructure into an intelligent digital ecosystem.

The Bigger Picture

This project demonstrates how advanced passenger displays can go beyond information delivery to actively improve service perception, accessibility, and safety.

Through innovation, in-house manufacturing expertise, and a deep understanding of transport environments, Trueform continues to support operators in building smarter, safer, and more connected networks.

Passenger displays are no longer optional enhancements; they are essential infrastructure for modern rail travel.

Trueform’s Passenger Displays division remains at the forefront of this evolution.
